Minister Han meets WHO Director-General

Minister Han Changfu met with Dr. Margaret Chan, the visiting Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO) and her delegation in Beijing on July 3rd, 2014.

 

Minister Han expressed gratitude to WHO and Dr. Margaret Chan for their special attention and support to China's animal health and food safety progress. He noted the fruitful cooperation between WHO and the Ministry of Agriculture of China, and briefed the delegation on the latest developments of H7N9 prevention & control in China.

 

Dr. Margaret Chan spoke highly of China's expertise and achievements in agricultural development and animal disease prevention & control. In particular, she extended appreciation for China's active participation in international cooperation on public health issues.

 

At the meeting, the two sides also exchanged views on food safety, veterinary antibiotics and some other major issues, and reached consensus on conducting pragmatic collaboration to improve the quality of dairy and other animal products in the future.

 

Mr. Bi Meijia, Chief Economist of MOA and Dr. Bernhard Schwartl nder, WHO Representative in China also attended the meeting.
